North Murray
Last Friday night North Murray took on Calhoun in region play. The girls team gained a victory with a 74-45 win, with 3 girls contributing double digit points. Korbin Tipton lead all scores with 20 points followed by Tenley Gladson with 14 and Sarah Plemons with 12. The Lady Mountaineers finished strong during the first half with a ten-point lead, making the score 36-26. When they returned for the second half you can tell they were motivated to put the game out of reach. They ended up outscoring Calhoun 38-19 in the second half. This latest win puts the Lady Mountaineers at 10-6 overall and 6-3 in region play.
After the game, Sarah Plemons received special recognition by being gifted with her 1,000-point game ball, making her the first Lady Mountaineer to score 1000 points in her basketball career.
The North Murray boys did not disappoint the crowd either, winning 71-53. Ladd McConkey lead all scores with 22 points followed by Chaisen Buckner with 9 and D'ante Tidwell with 8. The Boys are now 14-4 overall and 7-2 in region play.
The Mountaineers Boys and Girls have both swept the Calhoun regular season games this season. They both will play at Haralson County this Friday, January 11, then at Cohulla Creek next Tuesday the 15th .
Murray County
Murray County’s Friday night games were played against Cohulla Creek. The Lady Indians held their own and lead most of the game, however late in the fourth quarter the Cohulla girls pulled away and won 56-49. Jaide Johns lead the Lady Indians with 15 points, while Allison Weaver contributed 14. The Lady Indians are now 8-9 overall and 5-4 in Region play.
The Murray County boys defeated the Creek 83-73. Leading the Indians Haden Newport with 23 points followed by Bronson Bowen who scored 20. The Indians are now 8-9 overall and 4-5 in Region play.
The Indians will play at LFO this Friday, January 11 and then against Haralson County at home on Tuesday the 15th.
